Here we have a wonderful authentic antique print titled Empire de Russie, Chirurgien d’une Compagnie Medecin de regiment. This image depicts a battlefield scene in which an injured red jacket soldier is being attended to, while one gentleman points to another during intense conversation. In the background we can see another red jacket on horseback bearing a flag in his right hand.
Piece is a remarkable survivor of one of the finest and rarest suites of hand-coloured lithographs of Russian military uniforms. This piece is part of a 17 part set in which each comprises 8 plates suggesting that the series is complete with 136 plates. This suite was issued as part of Sammtliche Truppen von Europa, which was published serially between 1838 and 1843.
This image was printed by Christian Weiss of which the signature / trademark appears stamped/sealed along the bottom. The print comes professionally framed in a wooden frame that has been painted black around the edges and and also includes archival U.V. protective glass. Print is in very good condition with no rips or tears. Frame shows a few very minor surface abrasions to the brown wood finish. Easily touched upif you so desired. Overall this piece is in great condition.
