Today we are excited to offer for sale a wonderful and very awesome tribolite carved stone specimen! Trilobites (meaning “three lobes”) are a group of extinct marine arachnomorph arthropods that form the class Trilobita. Trilobites form one of the earliest-known groups of arthropods. The trilobites were among the most successful of all early animals, roaming the oceans for over 270 million years. Phacops is a genus of trilobites in the order Phacopida, family Phacopidae, that lived in Europe, northwestern Africa, North and South America and China from the Early until the very end of the Devonian, with a broader time range described from the Late Ordovician. This wonderfully intact specimen trilobite is very fine in quality, with well-defined eyes and features. The tribolite rests on a rock fragment, and is displayed on a custom-made, museum-grade lucite stand with aluminum posts. This phacops trilobite is truly amazing in person. We are not experts or scientists and have no way of knowing whether this is a replica or the real deal but it looks very much like an authentic specimen. We will leave up to the buyer to determine that. The trilobite presents beautifully and in very good condition, with naturally-occurring flaws that only add character. Lucite stand is in very good condition, with very minimal wear/scuffing. This is a truly a wonderful opportunity to acquire an outstanding trilobite. This piece looks like it belongs in a museum!
