Today we are pleased to offer a sweet vintage doll made by the EffanBee Doll Company (F&B). This doll dates to the early 1940s and has the Suzanne face. She was sold through the Montgomery Ward Catalog. Included in this listing are the clothed doll, and extra outfit, extra shoes and a carrying/storage case, which appears to be quite rare. Doll measures 14″, all composition, jointed body, mohair wig, sleep eyes (work well) and a closed mouth. Hand painted eyebrows, applied lashes, blushed cheeks and sweet bow shaped painted lips. This doll is marked on the back of her neck, and on her back “Suzanne, Effanbee, Made in U.S.A.” Her clothing is not tagged, not unusual for this time period of production. She’s wearing a lovely long sheer floral gown with short sleeves and a matching rayon robe with long sleeves. Underneath she is wearing a lace trimmed bra and tap pants with a floral rosette on one leg. The second outfit is a bridal ensemble consisting of a beautifully made long, ivory rayon gown with a draped bodice, long sleeves which end in a point and tie in a bow, a sheered ruffle at the hem, attached underskirt and three buttons at the back. The veil has a matching headpiece with beaded detailing and a ruffle of netting at the top. She has a bouquet of fabric lilly of the valley flowers in a lace rosette with several trailing ribbons. Included is an extra pair of shoes: a pair of pink oilcloth high top shoes with two snap buttons. The case has a few signs of age and usage. The leather covered handle is disinegrating, the corners have bumps and wear, the inside dividers are warped, and there are losses to the outside paper covering. Case measures 14 x 18 x 5 1/2″ with plenty of room for the doll and numerous outfits. This is a lovely doll in original condition that will surely shine with just a little TLC from her new owner. Very good antique/vintage condition. Doll has been stored for many years: she smells a little musty. Mohair wig is matted and needs to be restyled. Eyes open and close well. She has light crazing on her face, body and limbs. Her stringing is good and she’s fully poseable. All digits are intact with slight wear to the fingertips. Clothes are in good condition overall. There is a rip in the seam on the front of her nightie. A few small dots on the back of her robe. The wedding dress is discolored from age. The netting on the veil has holes and should be replaced. The bouquet is darkened with age. Her oilcloth shoes are a little dry and show signs of age. The added pair of pink boots are very good. Rayon stockings need to be cleaned. The case has a few signs of age and usage. The leather covered handle is disintegrating, the corners have bumps and wear, the inside dividers are warped, and there are losses to the outside paper covering. Fresh to the market from a Rhode Island estate!
