Today we are excited to offer for sale a RARE and very hard to find Marine Fire Insurance Co. of Grant County, Mississippi insurance note! This exceptionally fine note was payable to residents of Sinipee, Wisconsin at the company’s Chicago office. By the time this note was issued, on July 10 1844, the town of Sinippe (also spelled Sinnipee), had been devastated by a major flood and fever epidemic. Today Sinipee is a ghost town, submerged by the Lock and Dam No. 11 on the Mississippi River. This note features an attractive neoclassical scene with two lovely maidens scene at the center between two “2” counters, with bucolic images of a dog and a distinguished gentleman/general. The notes measure about 7″ by 3 1/4″. Note presents very well and is in very good antique condition, with normal wear and patina that come with age and type of use. This is a wonderful opportunity to own a rare and obscure obsolete currency note from a wonderful and bustling time in American history. Fresh to the market!
