Description

Today we are pleased to offer a fabulous antique figural lamp that was no doubt made in Austria with the incredible detail they are known for. This lamp portrays a medieval Cobbler Shop and is believed to be the work of Franz Bergman, although it is not marked as such (that we could see).  Other sellers we could find all concur.  Made of heavy white metal (incorrectly listed on other selling sites as bronze) with a bronze clad finish and cold painted details, this dates to the early 20th century. The front doors on the lamp open to reveal the shoemaker at work, with a table and tools in front of him as well as a little wire lamp with a glass ball at the top. There is also a small door with wire covered cut out sections that allows access to the light bulb. The handles on the back door actually turns to keep it closed.  There is a pull chain on the side of the lamp which is probably a new replacement because it looks shiny & new.  The original wiring runs up the side of the lamp and enters under the eaves of the roof. The wire is 1940s style rayon braid covered, and the plug appears to be a recent replacement. When lit, the windows on the front of the lamp light up with colored glass in red, blue, green and white.  Measures 11 1/2″ h x 6″ w x 4″ deep. Cord measures 90″.  This is a rare, well crafted, conversation piece lamp, ready to display and use.  Lamp is in good vintage condition.  This is cold painted white metal (not the bronze other selling sites would have you believe) with loss to the bronze coating and paint.  It is missing the little cobbler man figure that belongs on the right side of the lamp as well a hanging light on the left side. It is in working condition. Fresh to the market from a Rhode Island estate.  Just Google this lamp (try searching “antique bronze cobbler lamp”) and see what others are asking and you’ll come running back to snap this one up!
